The 2026 GNGU Silver Salver delivered three days of exceptional golf at Irene Country Club, with players competing over a gruelling 72-hole stroke play championship. After the opening 36 holes, the field was reduced to the top 65 players, who advanced to contest the final 36 holes and battle for one of Gauteng North’s most prestigious amateur titles.
Home-course knowledge proved invaluable as Irene Country Club’s Juan Coetzee set the early benchmark with a superb opening-round 64. Coetzee maintained his momentum throughout the championship, producing a consistent display of high-quality golf to finish on an impressive 14-under-par and secure the Silver Salver trophy.
Fellow Gauteng North player Cilliers Craig mounted a strong challenge and finished runner-up, three strokes adrift of the champion.
GNGU extends its sincere appreciation to Irene Country Club, its members, management, and staff for once again making the course available for this prestigious event. The course was presented in spectacular condition, providing a true championship test and reinforcing why GNGU is proud to call Irene Country Club its home.
A special thank you also goes to the many supporters, families, and spectators who followed the action throughout the week.
GNGU further acknowledges and thanks JONDO for their valued support.
