The NOMAD’s South African Girl’s Championship is hosted at Orkney Golf Club from 28 June to 1 July. Headed to the Orkney Golf club are seven of the GNGU’s best girl golfers as well as a miserable cold front. The weather forecasts predict temperatures well below freezing for the early mornings and evenings.
The spearhead of the GNGU contingent is Danielle du Toit who finished last year’s edition in eight place overall. The team consists of, Genee Marais, Mercedes Kreissel, Hannah Venter, Cleo Jordaan, Jo-Lindie Richter and Kaylin van der Merwe. The team’s chaperone might be its secret weapon. Kim Williams, one of the GNGU’s greatest ambassadors has made herself available to accompany the team and impart some of her knowledge and experience to the younger players.
The championship has a handicap limit of 32 and an age limit of 18 years. There are A, B, C and D divisions based on handicap. The championship is contested over 54 holes and has gross and net winners.
We wish the girls the best of luck and remember those beanies.
