Moolman on fire

After winning the Free State Open last week, all eyes were on Mid Amateur golfer
Louis Moolman at the Gauteng North Open.  Having the Scottish team here, as well as 5 other International players and the top amateurs in the Country at our biggest event of the year, it was always going to be exciting and competitive.  Scotland’s Gregor Graham, put up a tough fight in the final 36 holes, but the consistent form of Pretoria CC golfer Louis was too good for anyone to catch and with rounds of 68, 67, 69 and 67 he won the event 2 ahead of Gregor.

The course was in absolutely exceptional condition, and although a tough walk for the golfers it was a true test for the best amateurs.  An enormous thank you to the Club, management, staff and committee for not only giving up the course for the weekend, but the five star hospitality and assistance in hosting a fantastic tournament.

Kevin Sharp wins GNGU Senior Open

With a long weather delay, and bad light suspending play in round 1 of this year’s GNGU Senior Open, we were lucky to be able to complete both rounds for the event.
CGGU’s Kevin Sharp managed to shoot rounds of 70 and 71 to take this year’s trophy 2 shots ahead of nearest rival Weyers Janse van Rensburg.
The leading super seniors were Gordon Wessels, Stephen Chewins and Neale Gandy on 147.

We also announced the 2 Gauteng North players selected to go represent Gauteng North at the Senior World Amateur taking place in Reunion in a few months.  Thank you to the partnership with Air Austral, Ness by D-Ocean and the Reunion golf association, Leon Scott and Jauqo Jacobs will be going to participate in the event.

A huge thank you to Waterkloof Golf Club, not only for giving up the course and their hospitality, but their work in ensuring we could go ahead with 2 rounds for the tournament.

Tristan Leonard wins Silver Salver

Irene Country Club was in great condition and proved to be a good test for the players at the 2023 GNGU Silver Salver.   However, Irene’s own Tristan Leonard showed true form with a convincing win, finishing on -14 for the event, 7 shots ahead of nearest competitors.

Thank you to Jondo and Duca Del Cosma for your contributions to the tournament.

To Irene Country Club staff, Committee and members, thank you for giving up the course for the event.  We also appreciate the hospitality and assistance in ensuring we hosted a very successful tournament.
A final thank you to all participants for supporting the event.
